About the M2M

The M2M wishes to thank everyone who participated in the 2024 Murray to Moyne for a safe and enjoyable weekend.  The weather although a little challenging at first soon provided for great riding conditions.  The night riding from Stawell and Horsham was delightful, when considering the warm temperature and low wind conditions.

The dates for 2025 are now under consideration and will be announced here on the website and in the next newsletter.

M2M Port Fairy - Railway Place Presentation - Sunday 7 April 2024

This Years Milestones:

  • Casterton Memorial Hospital M2M Team- After 32 years, having ridden over 17,000 Kilometres and raised over $300,000 for our Hospital the CMH Murray to Moyne Committee has disappointingly come to an end.  We would like to make a special Mention of the Casterton Team Manager – Barb Thoma and thank her and the Casterton Team Members of the past 32 years and for all your efforts and contribution to the M2M.
  • Brett Fletcher – Team 256A – HypoActive - Participating in his 15th year of the M2M. - Fletch as everyone calls him is really a co-Team Captain as he is always helping all of us manage our sugar levels to keep us travelling down the road.
  • CASTEMAINE ROULEURS - TEAM 220 - Very Special Team Members Castlemaine lost their Co-Captain Phil Priest (Philbo) to illness last year and the team rode this years M2M in his honour and to celebrate his Life and his contribution to his Family and the Castlemaine community.
  • Phil was the soul of our cycling team and through his gentle humour and thoroughness, ensured that we never lost sight of the importance of caring for each other, either on the road, or off , plus his love of a few cups of coffee !  Philbo rode in the M2M for over 20 years.

Brett Fletcher - Team 257A – Hypo Active – Type 1 Diabetes:

Riding for Hypoactive Inc.

  • Fletch (as everyone in the world who knows him calls him) has overcome a great deal, not just to participate in the M2M, but also in life.  HypoActive is a team made up mostly of people living with Type 1 Diabetes.
  • Although he has never ridden the event, he essentially captains our support crew, wrangling us prima donna cyclists, keeping us safe in spite of ourselves, and runs a tight ship.  The relay transitions are swift, sure, compliant with the rules and spirit of the M2M, and safe because of him.
  • Fletch is encouraging everyone from the outset to get on board the team and fundraise for Diabetes Australia Kids Camps.  When our legs are flagging, he is there with support, encouragement and humour.

Peter Rauert - Team 12 – Warrnambool College:

Riding for Warrnambool Base Hospital – Paediactic Ward.

  • The Murray to Moyne event is the best weekend of cycling for the year.
  • Peter encourages everyone on the team to work together, supporting and encouraging each other while challenging yourself to ride as much as possible.
  • Peter is the embodiment of  Team 12.  Pete keeps the team on track in every aspect of the event, whether it's fund raising, transport, support and of course on road encouragement and guidance.
  • Team 12 are lucky to have Pete, a true gentleman, with his 29 years of experience, infectious enthusiasm and amazing cycling legs.

Graham Woodrup Award Medal:

Gary Bunn – Team 220 – Castlemaine Rouleurs:

Riding for the Castlemaine Health Service.

  • Participated for over 27 years.
  • Leader of the Team
  • Despite some personal health issues he has continues in his leadership role.   It has not stopped him riding or diminished his passion to support the team.
  • He oversees fundraising efforts and all aspects of the organisation of the team.  He has always ensured that the main reason for riding is to raise funds for the Castlemaine Health service.
  • Gary is well known as “that guy” that rides an old classic steel framed “Malvern Star Bike”  and looks like Santa Claus – with his long red pants and flowing white beard.
  • Gary has inspired many people who were not part of the cycling fraternity to take up riding and over time have become veterans of our team.
  • He has encouraged many people over many years of the importance of contributing and supporting charities in our community
  • The team has contributed over $200,000 for medical equipment for Castlemaine Heath – Much of that effort is because of Gary Bunn.

The Murray to Moyne is a team relay event.  Participants raise funds for hospitals, health services and health related charities.  The event continues Graham Woodrup or Woody's dream of getting more people to realise the fabulous health and social benefits of riding a bike and using your talents to help people.
